That is a beautiful one, what year is it? Can't remember which year they made the blue ones... :!:

I don't have a damn clue. It belongs to a friend of mine who lived 5 minutes away, he gave it to me for some electronics repairs then he suddenly moved like 3 hours away without picking it back up. So its been mine for almost 6 months now. Apparently he's coming around sometime in January.

After you get used to a heavy guitar, others feel odd (to me anyway).

I guess I mean that it's not really heavy, just heavier compared to most other guitars. It's much heavier than most of todays Les Pauls, too, since it's not chambered. I never understood the dudes that complained about the weight of a Les Paul.. It's carrying 10-12 pounds on your shoulder, man up.. :P

I never even knew they made a strat that came close to the weight of a Les Paul.. I'd love to play one of those.

Alot of late 70's Strats were like that. The thing is, you gotta play several before you get ahold of a good one. Alot of them built in that time period were dogs. Bad finishes, ill fitting necks, etc.

My Uncle's '79 is "one of the few".

For now, I'm playing my Gibson SG Special through JCM800 2203 1989 head with Marshall 2x12 G12T-75 cab and Marshall 2x12 bass cab (I'll replace the board and put 4 Vintage 30's in it). It has the balls!

^ Nice SG, and nice Viper up there! :!: I'm gassing for a SG big time. I love the shape and tone on those guitars.

i've got myself a Viper 400, and it does the job, plays great and sounds nice. Great guitars for the money.

For the money, 400 & up series vipers are great. I've put mine through HELL and they wont die. I've dropped, kicked, thrown, and flat out abused the piss outta my white one since the day it was bought new, and have only had t make one neck adjustment on it (and that was to change string guages).

Not to mention that my white 400 has one of the best feeling necks Ive ever wrapped my left hand around. (and even better since I shaved the neck. ). Even before I shaved it, it felt VERY similar (profile wise) to my old '73 Stratocaster. I guess if i were a "pro", a Viper would be "my" guitar, like a Strat was Jimi's guitar, and a Les Paul was page's guitar. Everything I ever wanted in a 2 humbucker "gibson-type" guitar, and looks cool to boot.

Whats great, is you can find used ones DIRT cheap . I almost bought a sunburst 400 series viper that needed pickups for $150.00. I wish I'd bought it now.

My Broe Jarrett has an ESP Standard seried viper, and the quality isnt much diffrent. (not $500.00 diffrent).

I wish they'd put out a Kirk or Pep signature Viper 8) phanboi gheyness, but I'd proudly buy one.

VIiper ghey lovefest rant over

Still waiting to sell the Randall... and buy another JCM800 or first convert the big 2x12 to 4x12 with Vintage 30's.

I'm currently re-spraying a Gibson SG Special. I filled in the routings under the pickguard so it won't have a pickguard anymore. This is after 3 or 4 coats of nitro lacquer:
