yeah. I find myself utilizing mine alot more. Especially set clean, with a tube pedal in front of it. Kinda like using the tube OD/ Dist as a pre amp, and the Randall as a power amp. It's ALMOST capable of anything I want. Especially metal / heavier stuff. Anything else, it's just a matter of getting the mids in the swet spot & fooling with the presence. Ive noticed with the one I own now, and a couple of others Ive had, that you pretty much gotta turn the mids to at least 12:00.

I was dicking around with it the other day & getting some REALLY convincing EVH out of it. I was testing out a MXR Phase 100 that I just sold . With the reverb up at about 9:00, the phase 100 set slight, the bass rolled back, & the mids up was getting some VERY "Fair Warning-ish" sounds. Wish I'd had a camera to captured it.

My Broe Jarrett still has the snakeskin RG100ES full stack he bought last year. I found it & was gonna buy it, but about the time I got around to it, is when the flood water started coming up, so I passed it on to him. He ended up buying it SUPER cheap. If he's still got it next year after things get settled for me, Im gonna try to buy it.

As much as I love Marshalls & always will..If I'd bought a Randall when I was younger & known what I know now, I probably would have never ventured into the "modded marshall" thing. I rate those $300 amps, right up there with classic Marshalls, Oranges, Hiwatts, Laneys. ...they're just great amps.

Yeah. I have one of the older ones like Kirk uses. I added a cap across a resistor & it added some thump, depth & made the low mids more "tube like" . Anymore I run it kind of clean, with a '96 Ibanez Tube King (the USA version that was made bu Tube Works..like the guy from Mastodon uses) that's had some minor tweaks done (cleaned up the gain. Added some caps to seperate the EQ frequencies a bit) and it sounds killer.plenty of power. Plenty of cut. LOTS of "oomph".

The minor mod done the the Randall makes a big difference (for the better). I'd like to grab up another one of these days to see what else can be done with them. There's a few digrams floating around on how to do em. I'd try the "CFH" mod (supposed to do the Dime thing, but without pedals) but have heard it's too grainy & buzzy.

My broe has an RG80ES, that sounds great, but doesnt have the balls that a 100 has. For the 100's, I prefer the older (85-86) models. The 87-up ones do seem to have more gain though. Especially the ones with the black front control panels.

As much as I dont like George Lynch, I run a Marshall mixed with the Randall like he used to do. A good set up. They blend REALLY well, once you get your volumes mixed right.

Hopefully I can get the FX loop hooked back up in mine. I think it just needs a new jack. I wanna try a parametric EQ in the loop of one. Would like to dick around with a Metal Zone & try out the Kirk Style sound with it too.

Wouldnt get rid of my trusty Randall. It'll curb stomp a $1500 Mesa

I used to run mine with a Metal Zone, and i ran it exactly like Kirk does (level cranked, EQ at noon, dist off). The metal zone tightens up the lows, and it adds sustain, so when you're tuning down to B or drop A it helps keep everything tight and helps note definition. Now i use a Maxon OD808 cause it sounds more natural to me. There's a sorta half sweeped wah tone you get with the metal zone that is hard to dial out, so i went with the OD instead. But if getting the "heaviest tone ever" is your thing... then it's hard to go wrong with the mt-2. It boosts the Randall into metal meltdown, haha.

The RG100ES is the best bang for buck amp out there for metal. Alot of people don't really give it much of a chance because it is solid state, but they don't know what they're missing. I've had mine up against 5150's, Marshall's, Mesa's and they hold their own against them no problem. The trick is finding a good boost for it... It takes OD's/boosts like no other amp.

I don't know why, but i've just found the older RG's had a little more chunk to them, and they seem to react better at higher volumes, kinda like a tube amp. I have not found the later ones to have more gain, actually i notice the opposite. The one i had with the black chassis and zebra felt shit had the nicest clean channel though, a really great sound.

I think a part of the key to them is the op-amp chips inside. I wish I'd thought about paying attention to which ones had which chips in them.

Sometime during the period when the RG100ES's were produced, Randall mad a SS bass amp that wass supposed to been like a bass amp version of the 100es's. I'd like to see how well one of those takes pedals, and if it could be used like I set up my RG100ES's . Ive seen a few of em pop up here and there. i cant remember the model name though. Might be cool to use in a master / slave set up, or just as a power amp.

If I had a line out on my Marshalls, I'd like to try running out of the Marshall (with the Marshall cranked) into the Randall (with the Randall turned down)

Traded my MXR Phase 100 for an MXR Badass '78 Distortion. Looking forward to trying it with the Randall.

I think the amp you are talking about is called the Randall RB500.

YEah. I think that's it.

Tried the MXR Custom Badass '78 Distortion. Was OK. Dont see what the hype about it is. Sounds more like a "splatty" / sputtery type of Fuzz, than a distortion. I had to roll my volume back quite a bit to make it decent with both my Plexi's & my Randall.

It goes to the sell or trade bin 8)
