Very interesting interview for sure.

One thing that popped out to me though in Part 2, was when Phil was discussing his heroin overdose in '96. He had mentioned that his girlfriend at the time (back in '96 when that happened) has since died of a drug overdose at the age of 37. Was he referring to Stephanie Opal Weinstein? As didn't they date for many years back in the 90's before getting married?

What stuck out to me was Walter O'Brien being a fat-fuck shit-stain.

 This might be the most open Phil has been other than the Loyola symposium.

Lesson to future journalists: Provide quality marijuana cigarettes.

Yeah no shit. Check this out here...this was an interview he did with Guitar World.

Quote:
Guitar World: Common consensus is that the beginning of the end came when Phil suffered a heroin overdose backstage at a show in Dallas in 1996. Were you there that night?

Quote:
O’BRIEN: I was. That was a very bad day. I had always told the guys that I would not deal with a band that got involved with heroin. And I knew that meant there were bands I could never be involved with because they were junkies. But at the time, none of us knew Phil was using. We were all sitting backstage in the Pantera dressing room, partying, having a great time. It was a killer show, a big, big venue in Dallas. It was a homecoming. Everybody was there—family, friends. And all of a sudden somebody came in, screaming, “Phil’s dying! Phil’s dying!” We all jumped up and ran down to the room where Phil was, and he was laying out on a couch or a table or something, so dark blue you couldn’t even see his tattoos. And he’d stopped breathing.

So an ambulance came and they ran him off to the hospital. And the Pantera guys said to me, “You gotta go to the hospital.” And I said, “I ain’t going to the hospital. I am not chasing junkies all over town. I’m sorry. And if that means you’re firing me, fine. I’m probably quitting anyway.” And I remember as soon as I walked away, I saw all his New Orleans jackass friends, from Eyehategod and a couple other bands, who are all junkies and morons and losers. And one of them, a guy who was in Down [drummer Jimmy Bower], came up to me and said “Cha-ching! What’s the matter? Your big payday get taken away from you?” I said, “What the fuck are you talking about?” And he said, “Well, you’re the one that let this happen.” And I said to him, “You’re the jackasses that do this shit around him and tell him it’s okay. And as far as a paycheck, I just quit.”

Obviously he didn't quit, but still, what a fat piece of dogshit. No wonder Phil hates his guts.

The stuff I quoted was from page 3, but that whole interview can be found here http://www.guitarworld.com/walter-obrien-strength-beyond-strength?page=0,0

good interview.thanks.

one thing tho. i think Vinnie and the world knows that the door is open and always has been.Let's face it it's not goin to be any time soon.It may take another 7 years, maybe another, and to be fair to Phil he's only answering the question put in front of him.

Maybe interviewers should stop asking the question now.

Indeed. No wonder we keep on seeing headlines on blabbermouth about the same shit over and over whether it's about Phil and Vinnie or Dave Mustaine's religious/political views because they get asked the same question and aren't blogging about it.

What a gem this interview is. Everything from the first toke (6 heh    ) to stomping out dope sickness...The meaning of 'Down in a Hole' - y'all have watched the vids, so I'm just running my mouth, so to speak. But it was seriously one of the most insightful, honest, and humble interviews to date I've seen from Phil. What strength inwardly to spill yer whole business to the world in a manner that is in no way whiney, nor seeking pity. Sounds to me anyways, that Phil is in a helluva good spot in his mental space.
Cheers. Don't break the oath, and let the power of the riff compel us all. 8) :!:

Good interview and interviewer. The guy wasn't a douche asking stupid questions. That's the deepest interview i've seen with Phil. :!:
