yeah.

I have the pedal version. Either way..good stuff. Try one if you ever get the chance. My broe loves em so much, he bought 2 more in case one ever goes bad / gets stolen / etc.

If you get one, get the model thats made for basses. It sounds better than the one actually designed for guitar. The one made for guitar seemed to color the amp's sound a bit, where the bass one just altered the sonic nuances of the tone. (punch, depth, clarity, balls, note separation / etc.

BUT... Im a tone freak / geek / snob. I obsess over small things with sound, so what sounds horrid to me, others may not hear. (it's a curse. I wish I were one of those cats who didnt care, and could just plug in, play & be happy. :P Would be easier and a hell of a lot less $$ spent on this addiction we call Tone.

It's gonna be a while before I get one, but its on the list now.

I'm right there with you. That's why I was telling you how the gain on that tube king makes the tone go south after playing for a while. That with the horrid hum that starts coming from my amp is all the reason I needed to look into that Dime head. It sounds great until that shit starts, which takes the fun out of playing. :|

Yeah. Ive toyed with em before, but never with my own stuff. They get mushy & thin, but I think I might be able to get it sounding better with some other value caps & resistors swapped in certain spots, and replacing a few minor things with higher quality & different kinds of caps ( replacing certain electrolytics with polyfilm / metal film) and of course trying different flavors of tubes. A tube will make alot of difference in tone and dynamics. So will different types of diodes (swapping zeners for LEDs or Germanium diodes). And of course cleaning up wiring / soldering & epoxying stuff down to make it where it'll take a beating.

Im actually wanting one to run with my Metro '68 Superbass clone. It's more of an old school flavor than my hot-rodded plexi. I think a tube OD would add some hair to its balls, without robbing all the actual 60's Marshall sound from it.

Also woud be a great tool to help warm the Randall up just a bit.

That's exactly what it does when it gets hot.

Yeah, sounds like you've got a good plan for it  I would say to mess with it for a while before you mod it so you can get a good feel for it. I've been known to let it get super hot by leaving it on all day, fyi...

I tried an easy mod on my RG last night. It's basically just soldering a electrolytic cap over a resistor. Made a noticeable difference in the sound / feel of the RG.

You know how a Solid State amp has that "stiff" / "cold" attack response? this makes it a bit more tube amp like, and adds a bit nicer dynamic to the lower frequencies, and adds a bit of bass.

took 10 minutes & a $4.00 capacitor from Radio Shack.

I may make it switchable, if I can do away with the reverb switch jack in the rear panel of the Randall without it fucking with something somewhere else in the amp.

anyone with an rg100 es or rg 80 es who wants the mod, holler at me. I'll send you the pic & directions.

EDIT: . I went up a size with a capacitor, and made it to where it can be switched in & out of the circuit. HUGE difference. Added a tiny bit of noise, but I think I can solve that by re-wiring the switch with some better quality shielded wiring. (I removed the low input jack up front, & put the switch in its place. Just a small on / off toggle )
